Alexander Elementary School Exceeds Expectations
Alexander Elementary School, located in West Tampa, has been recognized as an “Exceeding Expectations” school by the East Coast Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC) of Florida. Alexander was chosen from a large pool of all Title I schools in Florida and was based on showing significant progress in improving student achievement.
In 2012, the East Coast Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC) launched the EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS (E2) PROJECT. From a database of all schools in Florida, an ECTAC data analysis team identified Title I schools that exceeded expectations by showing significant progress in improving student achievement. Schools with 50% to 100% of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch are first selected using criteria based on School Grade data obtained from the FDOE database. These schools were then visited by a team of ECTAC members for interviews and classroom observations. After a careful review of a combination of criteria consisting of FCAT and Florida State Assessment scores and observations and interviews that occurred during site visits, schools are identified as either a Finalist, or an Award School.
This year, Alexander Elementary School, under the leadership of Principal Kristina M. Alvarez, has been designated as an Award category school from Hillsborough County! The school and staff were recognized at the annual 2015 Exceeding Expectations Conference in Orlando in early May. The awards were presented at the Conference Awards Banquet on May 7, 2015 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, FL. According to Principal Kristina Alvarez, the award is “a reflection of the dedicated and compassionate staff that I am fortunate enough to work with every day at Alexander Elementary School!”
Congratulations Alexander Elementary. Well deserved!
