Holiday Heroes: North Brandon Family YMCA brings holiday cheer to students
North Brandon Family YMCA is committed to bringing holiday cheer to students at the Lopez Exceptional Student Center. For the last five years, North Brandon Family YMCA has provided a sensory-friendly event where students get to meet Santa on their own terms, without having to wait in long lines or overcome an overly stimulating environment.
Through the generosity of the YMCA donors, students get to partake in arts and crafts, opening gifts, and enjoying delicious holiday treats. This year the Y's board members, staff, and volunteers were inspired to provide a wonderful holiday experience for the students at Lopez by incorporating an Angel Tree gift donation campaign, supported by their YMCA members. Within five days, all the angel tree names were gone and most donors brought in more than what was actually requested.
“As a cause-driven four–star charity, the YMCA is committed to giving back and providing support to their neighbors”, shared YMCA Development Director, Dwight Kerr.
Amanda Keel, the Site Administrator for Lopez ESC expressed her thanks saying, “Not only did the YMCA bring holiday cheer to our students, but they provided an amazing lunch to the entire staff at Lopez ESC as a thank-you for their hard work and dedication to our very special students.”
North Brandon Family YMCA is looking forward to continuing its partnership with Lopez ESC.
