Susan Valdes named to Executive Committee of the Council of the Great City Schools
The Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) brings together the nation’s largest urban public school systems in a coalition dedicated to the improvement of education for children in the inner cities. The Council and its member school districts work to help our schoolchildren meet the highest standards and become successful and productive members of society.
The Honorable Susan L. Valdes, HCPS School Board Member, has been selected for a three-year term to the Executive Committee of the Council of the Great City Schools. The Council of the Great City Schools serves 7.3 million students throughout the country, and exclusively represents the needs of urban public schools.
Composed of 69 large city school districts, the CGCS’s mission is to promote the cause of urban schools and to advocate for inner-city students through legislation, research and media relations. The organization also provides a network for school districts sharing common problems to exchange information, and to collectively address new challenges as they emerge in order to deliver the best possible education for urban youth.
Superintendent of Hillsborough County Public Schools, Jeff Eakins said, “Ms. Valdes’ appointment will enable HCPS to be more thoroughly represented within the Council of Great City Schools, which in turn will allow us to share the positive strides that our District is making in urban education.”
Congratulations to Mrs. Valdes for this distinction! For more information about the Council of the Great City Schools, visit http://www.cgcs.org.View Full Album
