Walmart Academy supports ESE student-based businesses
The Brandon Walmart Store #2381, in conjunction with their first-ever Walmart Academy graduation, presented the Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Transition Services Department with a generous check that will be used to support individual school-based businesses.
As part of the new Walmart Academy philosophy, and partnering with the Walmart Community Grant program, local stores are celebrating "giving back" to their community, so during the graduation, Walmart also recognized other community causes and organizations that had been awarded grants, including the Brandon Bears, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, Brandon High School, Yates Elementary School, and several local law enforcement and fire rescue groups. In addition, Brandon High School's JROTC Color Guard and marching band performed at the event.
Kim Workman, General Director of ESE for Hillsborough County Public Schools, was delighted and grateful for the donation. She noted, "Thanks to Walmart's incredible generosity, these funds will be used to support individual school-based businesses, giving students with all levels of need an authentic employee experience that includes communication, customer service, money-handling, and production creation skills."
As part of the graduation ceremony, 70 Walmart associates were the very first group to complete the Academy from Brandon Store #2381, and the store will now serve as a training hub for other stores. According to the Walmart website, there are many more stores just like this one and more than 52,000 associates have graduated since the first academy opened in 2016.
