Stay Informed with Important School Calendar Dates for 2016-2017
There are only a few days left until students go back to school. HCPS students will begin Wednesday, August 10. Over 200 schools will welcome more than 200,000 students back to the district. The approved 2016-2017 student calendar will help families get a jump start on what’s to come and make note of important dates that will impact their child. Hillsborough’s approved new calendar shifts the school year up two weeks.
Here are a few important dates to keep in mind as we roll into 2016-2017 School Year. Visit the HCPS Calendar page for all important dates.
First Day: Wednesday, August 10, 2016
Last Day: Friday, May 26, 2017
Senior’s Last Day: May 17, 2017
Monday Early Release Days
32 days have been designated as “early release” for the 2016-2017 school year, and all of them cut the day short by one hour every Monday.
Last Day of school, Friday, May 26 students are released two and half hours early.
Sept. 17 at Jefferson High School
Oct. 22 Location-TBD
Feb. 4 at Armwood High School
Some holiday observances fall on a Monday, which means there will be no school Sept. 5th, Labor Day; Nov.11th, Veteran’s Day; Jan.16th, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Feb. 30, President’s Day
Two “nonstudent” break days Oct. 10th and Apr 14th
Veterans Day will be observed Nov. 11th
Major breaks are scheduled in the Fall, Nov. 21-25, Winter Break, Dec. 19th through Jan. 2nd, and Spring Break, March 13-17.
Fairs or Festivals
To allow for attendance to the Florida State Fair, students in western Hillsborough County will have no school Feb. 10th.
In eastern Hillsborough County, students will be out March 6 so they can attend the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City
The 180 day school year contains four grading periods.
First grading period: Oct. 7, 2016
Second grading period: Dec. 16, 2016
Third grading period: Mar. 10, 2017
Fourth grading period: May 26, 2017
Report Card Distribution Dates
Reports cards for elementary school students will be distributed Oct. 24, Jan. 13, April 3 and May 26
For secondary school students, report cards will be sent home Oct. 28, Jan. 23 April 7, and June 10
Final report cards will be mailed home
